Invention Convention
The East Side Invention Club is for 4th and 5th graders. Members are selected each fall through an application process. Any 4th or 5th grade is given the opportunity to complete an application. Students in the club work in a group to create an invention that makes like easier. The students brainstorm their invention, create a design plan, make a prototype, create a display, and make a presentation on their invention. Our students annual compete at the annual Invention Convention at Middle Tennessee State University. This club gives students an opportunity to learn to work in groups, research, design, test, and revise a project, and teaches them presentation skills. Our club has been fortunate to have three groups of students that have been asked to present their invention at the National Invention Convention. Sponsors are Ms. Richardson and Mrs Castelow.
5th grader, Kevin Galindo, competed at the #nationalinvention Convention at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan from June 5th – 7th. He was one of 437 regional finalists asked to participate. His invention, “The Underwater Mask”, is a small oxygen tank, connected by oxygen tubing to a swim mask. This invention is designed to fit into the console of your car and in the event your car goes underwater, you will have extra time to escape from your car.
He shared his invention with judges and casting representatives from “Shark Tank.” He enjoyed exploring The Henry Ford Musuem and making new friends with other inventors from around the United States.
Thank you to Ms. Richardson and Mrs. Castelow for encouraging and supporting Kevin.
