Advancing District

On Friday, November 21, the Tennessee Department of Education released the 2024–25 state school and district designations, which recognize schools and districts for performance across key indicators of student success. These measures include student achievement and growth, chronic absenteeism, graduation rate, readiness for postsecondary opportunities, and progress toward English language proficiency.

Bedford County Schools (BCS) is proud to announce that the district has been designated an Advancing District for the second year in a row—one of only 100 districts statewide to earn this distinction. This is the second-highest designation awarded by the state. Only 14 districts achieved the highest designation, Exemplary.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Tammy Garrett celebrated the accomplishment, emphasizing its significance in the district’s history

“Last year was the first time Bedford County Schools had ever earned Advancing status, and to receive it again this year is a tremendous honor,” commented Garrett. “This recognition reflects the dedication of our teachers, staff, students and families who work hard every day to ensure high levels of learning for every student. I am incredibly proud of this district and what we continue to accomplish together.”

In addition to the district honor, three Bedford County schools were named Reward Schools: Eakin Elementary, East Side Elementary and Cascade High School.

Reward School designations recognize schools that demonstrate high performance and/or significant improvement by meeting objectives across multiple indicators and student groups. This distinction highlights consistent excellence and progress from the previous school year.

Garrett commended the schools for this achievement. “Being named a Reward School is a remarkable accomplishment, and having three schools earn this recognition speaks volumes about the outstanding work happening in our classrooms. These schools exemplify what is possible when educators, students and families stay focused on growth, achievement and opportunity.”

BCS remains committed to continuous improvement and to providing high-quality educational opportunities for all students.
