All About Me

Welcome to my webpage. My name is Lorie Richardson. This is my 17th year as a special education teacher and my 15th year at East Side. I live in Murfreesboro and enjoy time with family, church, and my cat Winston. I am trained in the Orton-Gillingham method of teaching reading. This method is a very direct, sequential, multisensory approach to teaching reading, writing, and spelling. The curriculum that is used during my reading classes is S.P.I.R.E (Specialized Program Individualizing Reading Excellence) that uses the Orton-Gillingham method. Currently, I serve on the board of the Tennessee Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. My favorite part of teaching is seeing my students gain confidence in their reading skills. I love being part of the faculty at East Side. For the last six years, I have sponsored the Invention Club at East Side. Each of my reading intervention students have a red sight word folder to practice at home. Please read over the words with them.
